The Glasgow Short Film Festival returns for a 3rd year with an
astounding selection of short films, industry events and parties
over the opening weekend of Glasgow Film Festival 2010.
The Glasgow Short Film Festival 2010 places the most innovative
of new film against the diverse backdrop of Glasgow's art, film and
music scenes. In doing so we are celebrating Glasgow's uniquely
collaborative creative community, which has positioned it as one of
Europe's most relevant art scenes. Our core competition programme
promotes emerging international filmmakers, whose innovative,
experimental and rule-breaking work introduces them as the strong
new voices of cinema.
The competition features Cannes Palme d'Or winning Arena by Joao
Salaviza, winner of EIFF's Best International Short Film Award
Princess Margaret Blvd., and Scottish BAFTA-nominated The Bedfords,
alongside new short films by heavyweights of world cinema Werner
Herzog and Tsai Ming-Liang.
For the first year GSFF introduces a Best International Short
Film Award, judged by international filmmakers Cynthia Beatt and
Ray Tintori and acclaimed local novelist Louise Welsh, with all 33
invited filmmakers competing for a cash prize.
This year's programme places the most exciting,
boundary-devouring international work alongside that of Glasgow's
creative community. Radio Magnetic's programme charting Glasgow's
unique musical heritage and local curator Gregor Johnstone's survey
of Scottish artists' moving image work play alongside a programme
devoted to the irrepressible and visionary no-budget American
collective Court 13, whose hilarious and moving work has won them
the support of both Spike Jonze and Barack Obama. Murray Grigor's
extraordinary shot-for-shot remake of his 1972 film on the infamous
St Peter's Seminary, Cardross is echoed in a double-bill by Cynthia
Beatt spanning 20 years and colossal upheavals in Berlin. Both
filmmakers will attend to introduce their work. And it doesn't stop
there. We bring you a guest programme from New Media Scotland;
sessions with the internationally reputable artists' film &
video agency LUX; discussion & films from the Glasgow-founded
online cross-creative platform Central Station; workshops by local
film institutions RSAMD and Skillset Screen Academy; parties and
the best of new music from LuckyMe, Radio Magnetic, Huntly &
Palmers, and our closing party at Glasgow's celebrated club night
Optimo; and even a mobile cinema in a caravan!
Come view great films, meet fellow filmmakers and celebrate the
wonder of short film!
